State & Federal Agencies Announce Added Transparency for Bay Delta Conservation Plan
Tuesday, 29 November 2011
Sacramento, CA—The California Natural Resources Agency and U.S. Department of the Interior announced today that they are taking another step to enhance transparency in the Bay Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP) process by ensuring that draft technical documents are made available to all interested parties at the same time.
The BDCP has been in development for more than five years throughout more than 300 public meetings and is one of the most expansive habitat restoration and public works projects in California’s history. As we move towards the final stages of writing the plan, public water agencies are committed to this continued collaboration and transparency and encourage state and federal agencies to keep the BDCP moving forward on schedule.
In recent weeks, organizations throughout California submitted letters of support for the BDCP and the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that facilitates coordination and continued funding for the BDCP. Read more about the MOA here.
“We appreciate the state and federal agencies’ commitment to advancing the Bay Delta Conservation Plan and certainly hope that this additional layer of transparency keeps this critical effort on track and moving forward toward its goals. Our public water agencies have made some tough compromises in the spirit of progress and collaboration because the Bay Delta Conservation Plan remains our best chance at fixing the Delta ecosystem and restoring a reliable water supply.”
