State Water Contractors Respond to National Research Council Report on Draft Bay Delta Conservation Plan
Thursday, 05 May 2011
The National Research Council issued a report today analyzing the November 2010 draft of the Bay Delta Conservation Plan. The following is a statement from the State Water Contractors in response to the report.
Sacramento, CA—“The National Research Council has clearly acknowledged that the Bay Delta Conservation Plan is a critical effort for California, and we appreciate its focus on the Delta. Let’s keep in mind, however, that the Council was asked to review an incomplete draft and this is a premature analysis. The Council’s report should not be considered a snapshot of where we are today in the Bay Delta Conservation Plan process or a reflection of what the final plan will look like. The critical elements that are missing from the plan are already under development, and much more work will be done this year and in 2012.
“Public water agencies share the National Research Council’s goals of developing a complete, strategic and effective plan for the Delta, thoroughly analyzing a range of alternatives and ultimately moving forward with a project that will best protect the environment and our water supply. We’re committed to this process and look forward to working collaboratively with both the state and federal administrations in the coming months.”
